Begins with the official name change to Pure-air Building Services Limited – the incorporation of a former Electrical subcontractor into the business to extend the company’s directly-employed labour ethos to electrical services – and January sees the workforce exceed 70.
A year of continued growth and expansion in its newly acquired 20,000 sq ft premises – the two most significant projects this year: Ashgate Medical Centre and Lambeth College were completed alongside many others, including Bingham Medical Centre. By the end of the year the company had completed its 50th ‘Pure Gym’. The company incorporates Electrical Services and associated CCTV, Data and Fire & Security systems into its building services portfolio. The HEVACOMP licence is extended to cover Electrical System Builder and a roadmap planned for eventual transition to Bentley’s AECOsim BIM package. Pure-air becomes one of Mitsubishi Electric’s select ‘Diamond Partner’ companies (offering 7 yr warranties) and takes lead position with several plumbing and building services merchants on turnover. A dedicated Purchasing Manager is brought in to manage supplier deals and relationships. The company launches an exclusive plumbing course with Chesterfield College for apprentices and upskilling engineers mates’ to give them a trade and better prospects with the firm. An (Esprit Arrow) CNC Plasma cutting machine and (AutoFold) Plasma Feed make a further near £50k investment in express low waste ductwork manufacturer together with CAD/CAM software.
A significant growth year with mechanical projects throughout the mainland UK and a steady increase in directly employed engineers with plumbers easily winning on numbers. Many mechanical projects handed over and new ones begun such Salvation Army Lifehouse, Grimsby; Dewsbury Medical Centre, and a new ASDA store at Worcester. August sees the purchase of new premises in Sutton-in-Ashfield. CAD is brought fully in-house and an investment made in Bentley’s HEVACOMP 3D Mechanical System Builder software making for an extremely responsive input to the main contractor and consultant on projects. The first apprentices were taken on across plumbing, air conditioning and ventilation trades. The company invests in ductwork fabrication machinery including a £40,000 AutoFold-iFold for forming duct sections at an average rate of up to 1 section every 20 seconds from coiled steel. The use of curtain-sided articulated lorries to deliver drawing-referenced duct sections to site impresses clients’ and proves highly economical.
Another strong growth year building upon 2010 with increasing supermarket projects, including a fast-paced programme of 7 Morrisons refits as well as and new stores (St Albans and Wisbech). Leisure projects, including Pure Gym, ramp up along with Center Parcs and Matlock Leisure Centre, and education sector projects remain strong. Premier Inn Halifax begins and some office projects and car dealerships this year are perhaps indicative of the first green shoots of wider economic recovery. In October work started on Lambgates Medical Centre (Hadfield, Glossop) with a very short 4 week lead-in after the previous mechanical firm failed.
A year of consolidation and strong reinvestment delivering new clients and the first Pure Gym brand projects. A significant number of health and education sector projects following the more buoyant areas in construction. Supermarkets and the food industry also provide several new projects including for ASDA and 2-Sisters Food Group.
Further strong growth with both mechanical and AC&V projects. These include the HP Midlands Recovery Centre based in Rugby (including a 5000sqft data centre); the impressive 5-star Brooklands Hotel at the famous Brooklands race track; Derwent House (Grade II listed building), and St Pauls (multi-tenant offices) in central Birmingham. Pure-air become one of Daikin UK’s top customers.
A move to new premises in Shirebrook opposite the huge Sports Direct factory. The first mechanical design and build projects include Burger King, Matt Roberts Gyms and several office projects. (We start saying, “it’s not just ‘pure’ air conditioning that we do”!)
A strong growth year for the company from supply, installation and maintenance of air conditioning and ventilation plant and services.
The launch year for Pure Air Conditioning Ltd, based in Mansfield and initially sub-contracting to other companies on many prestige projects throughout the UK.
